Maximillianaximillian was born on March 5, 2012. His mother’s name is Jilla, and his Father’s name is Freedom. Freedom and his band are from the Hart Mountain Herd.
The Hart Mountain horses were rounded up from the Refuge in 1998 as part of a complete removal of wild horses by the Fish and Wildlife Service. Two hundred and Seventy horses were gathered on horseback and scattered to the winds, but twenty five were relocated to the sanctuary in their original family and social bands.
The horses are diverse shades of roan, bays and chestnuts. Hart Mountain is very close to Beatty’s Butte where the famous Kiger Mustangs were discovered. The Kigers display a lot of old world Spanish Barb markings and conformation. Some of the horses captured off Hart Mountain also have strong Spanish Barb characteristics.
Maxmillian is an inquisitive and frisky colt. He is healthy and happy running in the pasture with his sisters. He takes after his father, being quite gregarious.
